Fitment Factor Calculator 8th CPC
Table of Contents
Fitment factor is the factor. Based on this, the Government decides how salary would be in the next Pay Commission. What would be the new basic pay in the 7th Pay Commission or the next Pay Commission?
If you are not getting it, let me explain to you with an example –
In the 6th Pay Commission, the Basic Pay was 7000.
The Indian Government and Pay Commission Committee Experts decided on a 2.57 Fitment Factor. How they decided this fitment, I will tell you in this article. So,
7000 was the 6th Pay Commission Basic Pay, and the Government decided on a 2.57 Fitment Factor.
So you do multiplication, means 7000 × 2.57, so then 17990 is coming. So now you have totally understood it. The Fitment Factor is the multiplication; from this, on old basic, we multiply and then the new basic pay comes. Okay.
How is the Fitment Factor Calculated? Step by Step
In the 6th Pay Commission, the last DA (Dearness Allowance) was 125%. What was the Basic Pay for the 6th Pay Commission? The Basic Pay for the 6th Pay Commission was 7000, right?
What is the work of Dearness Allowance?
Dearness Allowance works is for inflation adjustment. We all know that in our India inflation rate is 6-7%, However, We add Basic Pay plus Basic Pay’s Dearness Allowance percentage.
So, calculation is:
Basic Pay + (Basic Pay × Dearness Allowance percent)
For example:
7000 + 125% of 7000
(Note: Then we add House Rent Allowance, Transport Allowance, etc. That is a different topic.)
So, the last Dearness Allowance of the 6th Pay Commission was 125% and Basic Pay was 7000.
Now,
7000 Basic Pay = 100% = 1
Dearness Allowance calculation:
125% =
125
100
= 1.25
So, Basic Pay is 1 (as a factor), and DA is 1.25.
Adding both as fractions:
= | 225 100 | + | 31.5 100 | = | 225 + 31.5 100 | = | 256.5 100 | = 2.565 |
This 2.25 is called the DA Factor, after adding Basic Pay and current DA.
Increment Calculation
Now, this is the most important part. Here, the government decides how much percent salary should be increased, like 10%, 14%, or 15%.
Suppose the government decides to increase salary by 14%.
Increment calculation means:
14% of DA Factor.
Increment = 2.25 × 14% = 2.25 × 14 100 = 2.25 × 14 100 = 31.5 100 = 0.315
So, 14% of 2.25 is 0.315.
Now add Fitment Factor
Fitment Factor = DA Factor + Increment =
225 100 | + | 31.5 100 | = | 225 + 31.5 100 | = | 256.5 100 | = 2.565 |
Generally, for official purposes, this is rounded to 2.57.
We all know that in the 7th Pay Commission, 14% salary had been increased, and fitment factor became 2.57. This is how the fitment factor plays its role.
What is 3.68 fitment factor?
No, it’s not possible for the fitment factor to be 3.68 in 8th Pay Commission . If the fitment factor were 3.68, then the increment would be 120%. This is not possible. In any commission, there has never been an increase this high. The highest increment was in the 6th Pay Commission, where a 40% increase happened. So how is it even possible to have a 120% increment? Therefore, a 3.68 fitment factor is not possible.
Pay Commission | Year (Approx) | Time Gap (Years) | Real Increase (%) |
---|---|---|---|
1st | 1946 | — | — |
2nd | 1959 | 13 | 14% |
3rd | 1973 | 14 | 20% |
4th | 1986 | 13 | 27% |
5th | 1996 | 10 | 31% |
6th | 2006 | 10 | 40% |
7th | 2016 | 10 | 14.3% |
How is 2.57 fitment factor?
2.57 fitment factor was used in the 7th Pay Commission, after the 6th Pay Commission. With the 2.57 fitment factor, the total real increase was 14.3% from the 6th Pay Commission.
What is the expected fitment factor for 8th Pay Commission?
The expected fitment factor for the 8th Pay Commission is being widely discussed. Some people are saying it will be 2.57, while others suggest 1.92. However, many sources indicate that it could range between 1.92 and 2.86. Let’s see what the government is going to decide in the end.
